Like A Fish Out Of Water
Did you know dolphins suffer from sunburn? One dolphin that goes by the name of Spirtle certainly does now after the young animal got badly burned while it was stranded out of the water on the mudflats of Cromarty Firth off the coast of Scotland for 24 hours. Luckily for the bottlenose dolphin it was found by a couple who had got themselves lost while trying to find a spot at the Moray Firth, which is known to be a good place to see… dolphins. A team of scientists and conservationists managed to refloat the dolphin but such was the extent of Spirtle’s injuries that it was touch and go that it would survive. The University of Aberdeen and the Inverness-based Scottish Marine Strandings Scheme (SMASS) have since been monitoring Spirtle’s recovery and recent images show her injuries are healing. Talk about having a moment in the sun.
