Car ferry aids rescue of capsized boat crew in the Solent
A car ferry sailing in the Solent joined in the rescue of the crew of a dinghy which had capsized between Southampton and Isle of Wight. In response to the SOS, the Red Funnel ferry launched its lifeboat which was then positioned by its crew alongside the overturned vessel to provide it with shelter. A man was then rescued off the upturned hull while the harbour master’s patrol boat recovered a woman and a child from the water. All three were transferred to Hamble Lifeboat and taken ashore suffering the effects of the chilly water but all thankfully escaped injury. As for the Red Funnel service, well it was delayed by 30 minutes…a small price to pay thinks HEN.
