Clean-up Operation
How did a climber whose leg had become trapped in a crack on Gribin Facet, a crag above the Ogwen Valley in Gwynedd, Wales get freed? Thanks to the deployment of the latest equipment and tools? Nope. Thanks to that staple of the kitchen, washing up liquid? Yes! The woman, who is in her 50s, got stuck in the crack after she slipped down a cliff. When her husband’s efforts to free her failed, 16 volunteers from Llanberis and Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue team arrived on the scene to assist armed with… washing up liquid. After spreading it around the walker’s knee, the rescue team used ropes to pull the woman free. Eh Voila! A mountain rescue with a Fairy tale ending.
