Rejoice! A choirboy whose bicycle was stolen from outside the church where he sings will be able to buy a replacement after the congregation and choir ‘raleighed’ around to raise the required funds. Luke Franks, a teenager from Spalding in Lincolnshire, secured his £400 Raleigh Hybrid bicycle outside the vestry of the St Mary and St Nicolas Church as he usually did using a heavy duty chain and lock before he went off to sing in the choir. When he returned, the bicycle was no longer there. While they couldn’t get him his old bike back, the regular churchgoers were so appalled by the theft that they did the next best thing, as Luke’s mother Hayley explains “The choir master…called to say he had been contacted by a number of members of the church congregation who wanted to donate money to help replace Luke’s bike. In all they donated £250 and then Nick told me that they would like to make it up to the full amount from the choir itself… I was and still am absolutely astounded and humbled by the generosity of these kind people.” Amen to that.
