Finders Keepers?
Teenager finds wallet containing £1,000 in a road in Exeter, Devon. Does the schoolgirl: A) keep the £1,000; B) hand the wallet in after pocketing the cash; or C) hand in the wallet along with all the money? Answer: C of course. 13 year old Caitlin Jeffery took the wallet to a nearby shopkeeper who then handed it into the police. Containing just an old picture of a man, there was not much in the wallet for the police to go on when it came to tracing the owner. So an appeal was launched on social media to track down the man in the photo. Hey presto, after 20 people contacted him following the appeal, the son of 80 year old Dennis Clatworthy came forward. It turns out the photo was a 30 year old pic of Mr Clatworthy who lost his wallet and all the cash that was in it while he was en route to the bank. The very grateful pensioner said: ‘I know people who would not have handed it in. I am so grateful to Caitlin. Teenagers get a hard time but I cannot thank her enough.’ As for Caitlin, she said: ‘I just saw the wallet lying in the road. There was a lot of money in it and just a photo of a man. I was really happy Dennis got it all back.’ Dennis’ son Mark added: ‘My dad sent Caitlin a £50 reward. She is saving up and doing jobs to raise £2,000 so she can go on a school trip to Malawi.’ Proof if ever it was needed that it pays to be honest.
