Two students came up with a novel way to beat traffic jams during China’s Golden Week holiday…roller skate the 352 miles from Jining College in eastern Shandong province along the motorway to Beijing where they had planned to spend the break. In all it took the pair five days to complete the trip, which is the equivalent of travelling from central London all the way to Sheffield. One of the students told Beijing Youth Daily, “Our families were concerned about our safety…But before we set out, we sought the advice of professionals on where not to go, and how to stay safe.” Beijing Traffic Police were none too pleased however and warned that others students looking to follow the couple’s example could be slapped with hefty fines for violating traffic rules. Despite this, the intrepid duo have no regrets about their epic skate, “This trip was interesting and meaningful. We just took advantage of this holiday and were able to realise a dream.” Sounds like they were skating on thin ice.
