Kind Request Stop
If there was a top ten list for best reasons why buses are late, surely none can beat why the No.16 in West Yorkshire was delayed by ten minutes one weekday morning. For the driver stopped to check if a girl, who was visibly upset at a bus stop in Bramley, Leeds was ok. On hearing the girl was running late for school, the driver took it upon himself to ensure she wouldn’t be. Not only did he arrange for a taxi to come and pick her up from a nearby Tesco, he walked her to the supermarket and if that wasn’t enough, he gave her the £5 fare. As you would expect, the generous gesture went down well with the passengers on board. Lynsey Jayes posted on Facebook: “This bus driver on the Number 16 this morning deserves a huge pat on the back. A young girl waiting for the bus at the wrong side of the road and was upset she would be late for her first day at high school. The driver not only phoned her a taxi, he walked her to Tesco and he paid for it… now that is a reason I don’t mind my bus running late for. And it started out as such a normal day. He deserves all the thanks in the world!” Needless to say the driver’s employer First West Yorkshire is proud of their man. A spokesman for the bus company said: “We are delighted with the actions of our driver, who has shown exceptional customer awareness and consideration for this young girl, who was clearly very upset. First West Yorkshire is grateful to Lynsey Jayes for highlighting our driver’s actions and to the many customers and other members of the public for their kind comments.” As for the driver, Ms Jayes added, “And he was so modest too…like it was just an average thing to do!” Hmmm…if we all followed the driver’s example perhaps one day it will be the average thing to do.
