Pick Of The Litter
Here’s a novel way to tackle litter: sell it. It might sound too good to be true, after all who would buy rubbish, but that is precisely what volunteers in Northamptonshire are doing. They’ve teamed up with a Mr David Blyth, an artist from Scotland, to turn litter found in the town of Corby into items which can later be sold to raise money for the local woodland volunteer service. And it seems all kinds of litter are being given a new lease of life with wrappers and bags being transformed into either homemade paper, postcards or bookmarks. For those wondering what was the inspiration behind the project, which has been organised by Fermynwoods Contemporary Art in Corby, perhaps the clue was in the name of the woodland where the artist and volunteers have been retrieving litter… the Hazel and Thoroughsale Woods.
