Solid As The Rock
Who says watching TV is bad for your health? The family of a two year old boy who was saved from drowning by his 10 year old brother might have something to say on the matter. For when Jacob O’Connor found his young brother Dylan floating face down in a swimming pool, he instinctively copied the actions of a scene from one of his favourite movies, San Andreas, which features Dwayne Johnson, the Hollywood star known as the Rock. Inspired by the movie, the youngster from Michigan pulled Dylan out of the water and proceeded to give him chest compressions. When Dylan coughed up some water, Jacob then ran to alert his grandmother, who had been looking after the two boys along with their eight year old brother Gavin. An ambulance was called and after being administered oxygen, Dylan was whisked off to hospital. According to Jacob’s mother, a Ms Christa O’Connor, her two year old son “was kept in for two days. But he’s well now and has no neurological damage or any lasting effects. Thankfully we’ve been so lucky and it’s like it never happened”. And mum is in no doubt that it is down to her eldest son, “I’m at a loss for words. I’m amazed at what Jacob did. I’m so proud of him.” Her son however has taken all the praise in his stride. His mother added: “He just thinks it was the natural thing to do. Someone asked him if he thought he was a hero and he just said ‘I don’t know’. I’m surprised Jacob remembered what he’d seen in the film but it’s one of his favourites and he’d seen it the week before.” As for the hero himself, Jacob told local news media: “I was scared when I saw Dylan in the pool. My favourite movie, San Andreas, had compressions (CPR) in the movie and I remembered it from the part in the movie where there was an earthquake, then there was a tsunami, and the girl was drowning. In most movies, that’s what they do. They try to save the person first, and if it’s not working, they go get someone.” News of Jacob’s life-saving heroics reached Dwayne Johnson himself. The star tweeted: “Wow amazing story….You’re a real life hero. We’re all proud of you! DJ”. And who would argue with the Rock?
