We’ve all been there at some point or other – waiting an age for someone to turn up to fix something. So spare a thought for a group of Russian grandmothers who gave up waiting for the local authorities to come and fix the pothole-ridden road that runs through their village of Svedniy Bugalish in the Urals, that they went out and did the job themselves. The ladies, which included a 90 year old, each stumped up 500 roubles (£6.5) to hire the required equipment and buy a truckload of gravel. Then armed with shovels and wheelbarrows and with the help of two men, they made the necessary repairs. Job done.
