Fifth Time Lucky
Congratulations to Neil Faudemer who became the first man to swim from Guernsey to Jersey after he completed the 20 mile route in 14 hours 57 minutes. In true never say die spirit, this was Mr Faudemer’s fifth attempt at the crossing: in 2012 the tide forced him to give up just 500m from the shore; a year later he was plucked from the sea unconscious suffering from hypothermia; in 2014 he was struck down by sea-sickness; while a second attempt that same year saw him retire with dehydration. Not that this latest attempt went swimmingly well, as the 55 year old was stung in the mouth by a jellyfish. OUCH! Mr Faudemer, who in 2011 became the first man to swim the Sark/Jersey channel, said “I really wanted to do this because of the history – it’s haunted me”. Now that’s how you lay a ghost to rest.
