The Greatest Send Off
The passing of the legendary Mohammed Ali on 3 June 2016 understandably led to an outpouring of tributes from all quarters in honour of the boxer who even while he was alive was simply known as ‘The Greatest’. The icon was also known as the Louisville Lip in recognition of his wonderful turn of phrase, none more so than his famous promise to “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee his hands can’t hit what his eyes can’t see” ahead of taking on George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle in 1974. With those words in mind, it seems entirely appropriate that within days of his death thousands of the busy honey-makers were seen swarming around the Muhammed Ali Centre in Louisville, Kentucky which is located close to where Ali grew up. What’s more the 15,000 or so bees decided to make a home for themselves on a tree next to a ‘Float like a butterfly sting like a bee’ mural…
