Warning for all sufferers of vertigo, the following story is set 1,000ft in the air on the outside of the 70th floor of the US Bank Tower skyscraper in Los Angeles. For that is where a 45ft glass slide has been attached. Made of glass one inch thick, the slide has been built to withstand hurricane force winds and earthquakes. For US$25 members of the public get to have a go on the slide, jumping on board on the 70th floor and alighting on the 69th. The first thrill seekers to give it a go do not appear to have been disappointed. “I thought it was nerve-wracking and exciting and daring,” said Keri Freeman; while Rebecca Fitzgerald added “I went a lot faster than I thought I would. And you kind of like hit the side as you’re coming around the curve, so you’re really pressed up against the glass, so you see the whole world below you, but it’s not really that scary.” Anyone need a lift? Take the slide.
