The Semanggi Interchange, a new overpass in Jakarta, may have only just opened but already motorcyclists have been banned from using the road. Not for speeding or dangerous riding, but over safety fears as the interchange, over which four roads pass, has quickly become something of a hotspot for selfies. It appears this is down to its four leaf clover shape as well as the thousands of diodes which light up the overpass in various colours. An official from the Jakarta Transportation Agency told the Jakarta Post, “We are concerned about their safety because instead of crossing the interchange, they may just go there to take pictures”. Jakarta’s governor, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, added, “We have to secure the place. People could fall while taking selfies. We have to make sure that no accident would happen here.” Bet that went down like a photo bomb.
