Roll With The Punches
When US supermarket chain Trader Joe claimed it had invented a new snack called the ‘Puff Dog’ it was applauded by interested observers in America – Los Angeles-based lifestyle website Hello Giggles went so far as to describe it as “genius”. The reaction however was frosty to say the least on the other side of the pond, for the Puff Dog closely resembles the humble sausage roll, 2.5 million of which are sold each week by bakery chain Greggs. The Mirror newspaper was outraged, slapping the headline: “Sausage roll given ridiculous new name”. There is one difference though. Whereas the sausage roll is a pork sausage wrapped up in puff pastry, the Puff Dog uses beef. Sometimes it is the little things that count most.
