Go The Whole Hog
When the mother of eight baby hedgehogs was sadly killed in the city of Vladivostock in Russia, the future of the hoglets she left behind looked bleak. For two days, staff at Sadgorod Zoo tried to feed them milk. Syringes, bottles and saucers were all tried but none could do the job. Even heating pads were deployed at night to help stimulate digestion. It seemed nothing would work. Until that is Muska the cat stepped in to save the day by becoming a surrogate mother to the baby hogs. Having recently raised a litter of kittens, which she had also fostered, Muska still had milk to offer. So with options fast running out, the zoo decided to introduce the orphaned hedgehogs to Muska. It worked. Attracted by the smell of milk, the by now very hungry hoglets soon began to feed. In all Muska fed the youngsters for a week. That was enough time to get all eight hedgehogs to feed themselves. Sounds like they are all in hog heaven.
