Age of Equality
It’s official: the gap between men and women’s life expectancy in Engand and Wales is closing. Research carried out by Imperial College London and published in the Lancet predicts men will on average live to 85.7 years by 2030, just two years less than women. It’s a major improvement on the equivalent figures not that long ago – in 1981 the age gap stood at six years. No need for women to worry though, the good news is not confined to men. Life expectancy is improving for both sexes, it’s just that men are on the up a tad faster than women at the moment. Mind the gap.
