Around The World In 14 Years
Back in 2002 Tony Blair was Prime Minister, the Euro became the official currency of twelve countries in the European Union, and Chris and Fiona Jones set off on their round the world sailing trip from their home in Gwynedd, Wales. 14 years on and after clocking up 90,000 nautical miles in their 43ft (13m) boat, Threeships, which took them to more than 40 countries, they are back in home waters. In true adventurer fashion, the couple set off on their epic trip without a plan and with no intention to be away for so long, as Mrs Jones explains “When we first set off we didn’t really have any plans to circumnavigate. We thought we would just go sailing and see what we could see”. As for their number one spot, “It’s pretty difficult to choose a favourite spot. We loved a lot of places and loved meeting all different people. I suppose New Zealand was a highlight and so were some of the Pacific islands.” Phew, it’s tough keeping up with these Joneses.
