Home Delivery
When Rhiannon Oldham suffered a bout of heartburn and added a few extra pounds round her waist she put it down to overindulging during the Christmas break and thought nothing more of it. Fast forward to February and it turns out the 30 year old was in fact pregnant after she unexpectedly gave birth to a baby boy in her home. It was after Ms Oldham complained of severe stomach pains, that her partner Gareth Williams called the emergency services. MOT examiner Mr Williams, 34, recalled what happened: “I had to carry her from the bathroom to the bedroom, and that’s when I could see that something strange was happening…I called 999 and I told them there was something seriously wrong with my girlfriend, and within minutes Rhiannon had actually given birth. It was a huge shock because we had absolutely no idea that she was pregnant, but we’re over the moon.” Welsh Ambulance Service call handler, Chelsie Holbrook, who took Mr Williams’ 999 call just as baby Philip Alan was born, said: “The alarm bells started to ring for me when Gareth said that Rhiannon had a large lump, and before we knew it she had actually given birth. I’ve delivered five babies in my time as a call handler, and this one’s definitely up there in terms of the most dramatic.” And it seems having a baby is not the only big change on the horizon for the new parents, as Philip Alan arrived just days after the couple got engaged on Valentine’s Day. Call centre worker Ms Oldham said: “The last couple of weeks have been a blur. One minute we were planning for a wedding – now we’re planning for a nursery.” Now that’s what you call an unexpected delivery.
