SOSed!
In May 2017, an SOS signal made out of rocks was spotted by a helicopter pilot while flying over a remote part of Western Australia. Naturally concerns were raised for the wellbeing of the person or persons who wrote the message. Stand down soldiers. It seems it was a genuine plea for help, with ‘was’ being the operative word. For the Police believe the message was written way back in 2013 by a man and woman who were stranded on a yacht at Swift Bay, which lies approximately 500km from the city of Broome. According to the brother of the man, who after reading about the mystery on the BBC got in touch with the authorities, the castaways had quite an adventure. After managing to escape on a raft, the pair had a hairy ride to shore after being “attacked by a couple of crocodiles”. Safe on terra firma, they survived on rations and water and of course built their message, until they were picked up by a passing yacht. The Police believe they have their man and woman but they need to confirm the story with the man himself. It turns out however that he is on a boat in the Mediterranean. Good to see he wasn’t put off the sea by the experience.
