It’s safe to say Whitchurch is a common name for towns, villages and suburbs across the UK after residents from 11 different Whitchurches got together this summer in… Whitchurch, Hampshire for the inaugural Worldwide Whitchurch Weekend. A bit of a tongue twister – try saying that quickly six times. The three day event saw Whitchurch communities in Shropshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire, Somerset, Herefordshire, Dorset, Cardiff, Cardigan and St David’s compete against each other in events such as archery, bowls, tug of war as well as a bake off. Unsurprisingly, all that could be heard during the competition was “Come on Whitchurch” so nobody would have felt left out. There was also live music and a vintage car parade. The event was such a success that there are plans to hold another in Shropshire in two years time in a market town called…Whitchurch.
